We Talk To Other People

As proof that we talk to other people, here is a G-Mail Conversation (edited for presentation) held recently between myself and my friend Amanda:

Emeric: We're talking about killer whales here. It's a very legal discussion.

Amanda: Sounds like fun.

Emeric:
It is. We're talking about critters that try to eat people.

Amanda:
Like what?

Emeric:
Sharks, Hippos, Gators. Mostly Sharks and Hippos, occasionally delving ito the Killer Whale Scenario.

Amanda: I saw a hippo at the zoo on Sunday.

Emeric:
Did it kill anyone?

Amanda:
No, it just sat there.

Emeric: Then I don't see how that's at all relevant.

Honestly, Amanda. If you're not going to contribute to the conversation, don't change the subject to yourself. It's rude.

Another Limerick

this was Jessica's Limerick, which was one of my favorites.

St. Kieran he went a court'n
Best jacket and hat a sport'n
His love she did faint
And cried "That's no saint!"
"Does Pope know how you've been consort'n?"

Remember Ye, St. Kieran's Day ...

Recently, we celebrated St. Kieran's Day, which happens to coincide very closely with a certain author's birthday. One of the many notable events of St. Kieran's Day was the limerick contest, in which we challenged our friends to bring their best poetry skills to the table. I'd like to share with you some of my favorites:

For years Kieran’s mind has been swelling
And with no women in his dwelling
He handles his briefs
But finds no relief
To satisfy his interest compelling.

- Andy Busam

I once knew a young man who would sweat.
He’d cause Noah’s flood, I’d bet.
Any hot day in June,
When the sun’s at high Noon,
You’ll find him around, soaking wet.

- Bryan Anderson

There once was a man named O’Dwyer
Who needed a butler and said he would hire.
With a monkey-like hop
I considered his plot,
To live in his closet or dryer.

- Mike Helgen

And, of course, the winner of the contest:

There once was a man named Kieran
Whose friends were aghast and a’fearin’.
For Kieran had found
And bought by the pound
Leopard Speedos which now he was wearin’.

- Mike Bernabo

These are truly classics of modern literature. If you'd like a more full account of the evening, you can find it in one of the greatest works of our time.

Over the Hills, Where No Man Has Gone Before ...

The following is a conversation Kieran and I had a few nights ago as we were combing through movies at the library. We go there for two reasons: 1) The Library has pretty good movie selection; and 2) Said movies are free. I came across a Richard Sharpe film. I'm a pretty big fan. The conversation went like this:

Emeric: Hey! A Richard Sharpe film!
Kieran: You really like him way too much.
Emeric: He's my hero!
Kieran: I thought William Shatner was your hero.
Emeric: They can both be my hero!
Kieran: Uh-huh.
Emeric: My ideal movie is the two of them running around, killing Cromwell's British. Arguably, this doesn't make any sense, but a man can dream, can't he?

Devolving in to Absurdity

A particularly amusing conversation Emeric and I had a while back. This is how most conversations devolve. One of us says something that sounds intelligent and the other then proceeds to take the conversation in a unbelievably stupid direction. The funny part about this conversation is that you really can't tell where the intelligent part of the conversation occurs, but you know its in there.

Emeric
: well, you could spend a fair amount of time at the cottage then
me: I need internet though
and I think the internet would light the cottage on fire
I think the metaphysical collide of their fundamental essences would be so incompatible that it would generate so much cognitive friction that it would actually cause transdimensional heat transfer and ignite the whole thing
Emeric: That and the cottage is a firetrap anyway
me: yeah
something like that exchange would go well in a scene in a movie
Emeric: You know, I really think it would ... I could see the delivery quite perfectly in my head
me: I think we would need to be carrying guns

Emeric: I think that in most scenes we need to be carrying guns
or polishing them
or brandishing them
some possession of a firearm in a cool fashion

Right. Better Get On This Then.

It wasn't that long ago this site was founded to give myself and a few others a chance to be goofy on the internet.

Wait. It was a year ago. Ok then.

Because no one has ever been goofy on the internet before.

And while Kieran and I each maintain our own blogs, where in I plan to continue to deposit my observations, recordations, and laundry-lists, this ground shall be a source of our mixed silliness and a depository for the odd events which permeate each day with the Dwyer Boys.

So keep up to date with us, there's more to come.

Oh, and I'm naming the ship the Prospero. If only because "The Voyage of the Prospero" sounds like a wicked awesome best seller in which I ponder life and love while sialing around the world and battling pirates.
